It was also decided to increase the prices of third-class tickets by 12.5% as well, with the ticket value being rounded to the nearest five pounds.
A greater increase on short lines

Date for applying the new prices
The new tariff began to be implemented as of twelve o'clock after midnight, so that all tickets sold from the morning of Wednesday, July 1, 2026 will be according to the modified prices.
Why did the Ministry of Transport raise ticket prices?
The Ministry of Transport attributed the decision to move ticket prices to the continued rise in operating costs, the increase in fuel and electricity prices, the high cost of maintenance and spare parts, in addition to periodic increases in workers’ wages, to ensure the continued operation of the railway facility and improve the level of services provided to passengers.
The Ministry confirmed that it continues to implement railway development plans, while working to develop the authority’s own resources by maximizing the use of its assets, which contributes to supporting development projects and improving the quality of service.
