Travelling by train as a passenger with a disability, or as a patient on a treatment journey, needs advance knowledge of what the system recognises. ENR maintains independent, named categories for these cases — not ad-hoc exceptions decided on the spot.
Blind passengers: two categories, not one
- Blind — the passenger alone.
- Blind with guide — a fully independent category, not an add-on.
Each exists in two versions: public sector and private sector — four approved categories in total. This matters practically: "with guide" being its own category means the accompanying person has a recognised status and does not necessarily need a full ticket.
Both also exist in the subscription system for frequent travellers.
Cancer patients
- Cancer patient.
- Cancer patient with guide.
- Child with cancer.
- Child with cancer plus guide — under ten years old, an age limit stated explicitly in the system.
An age-bounded category shows the classification is detailed rather than generic, and that age may be a condition.
War veterans
A similar logic applies: war veteran and war veteran with guide, each in public and private sector versions. Notably, war veterans also have separate fine categories in the violations regulation — the status is recognised in both directions.
What to prepare
Because each category is named and approved, proving status is the basis of the process. The system does not publish a specific required document; the station ticket office or subscriptions office determines it. Asking in advance is wise, particularly for treatment journeys that cannot absorb delay.
A note on the integrated services card
A recurring question: is the integrated services card accepted for booking? What can be confirmed is that the system recognises the categories above by name (blind, with guide, cancer patient, war veteran). Whether a discount is tied to one specific document is an operational matter decided at the counter, and we cannot confirm or deny it without an official source. It is more honest to say so plainly than to publish an unverified claim on something people rely on.
Frequently asked questions
Does a companion pay a full ticket?
"With guide" is an independent approved category, so the companion has a defined status determined at the counter.
Is the discount available on all classes?
The category is system-wide; whether it applies to a class follows that class's tariff rules.
Does public or private sector matter?
Yes — each category exists in both versions, determined by the passenger's employer.
Note
We list the approved categories without rates or amounts, as values are set administratively. See also Egypt railway stations and train types.
